The Extraordinary Ordinary Earth @ Fraser’s Hill

After months of lockdown, are you like us – craving to breathe deep lungfuls of pure, fresh air; move freely in green, open spaces; and feast our senses on the natural beauty and myriad wildlife of a pristine forest, while being guided by nature professionals? Come join us in this unique 3D/2N nature immersion programme co-created with our 11 year-old son for families to learn and play together in nature. Our friend and guest zoologist, Mary-Ruth, will also guide us to spot special wildlife (when she is not criss-crossing the country for her conservation work).

About your guides:
Ken has worked in conservation with WWF and corporate sustainability with Earthworm Foundation for the past 7 years. He draws from these experiences as well as from hands-on gardening with his wife, Shirene, in their food garden to create imaginative, experiential and multidisciplinary nature education programmes for families and organisations. Ken loves teaching and sharing the joy and wonder he discovers in nature. He is seeking to educate youth in building sustainable futures for all, especially since Covid-19 has highlighted the urgent need for human societies to thrive within nature’s boundaries.

Mary-Ruth works as a conservation scientist with local research NGO, Rimba, where she studies fruit bat pollinators. She studied and worked at the National University of Singapore from 2009-2013, before joining the Singapore Zoo to coordinate local wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and release in 2016-2018, before returning home to Malaysia. She has a soft spot for snakes, snails and slugs; enjoys sewing tapir plushies, as well as the company of fellow human beans (cue: Roald Dahl). She is also the author of the children’s book “Hidden Creatures”.

“A special time that my son and I cherish. We had an extraordinary experience through simple, ordinary activities. These activities give me ideas on how I can spend time meaningfully with my boys. The intentionality of the programme for parent-child bonding is excellent. Your programme has an unconventional approach to learning that expands thinking, sparks a desire to learn more and increases appreciation for our precious Earth.” Karen”

Highly recommended way to spend a Saturday morning! My family enjoyed ourselves, picked up bits of terrestrial and cosmic knowledge, and gained a deeper appreciation of how special planet Earth is and why we need to take much better care of it. The variety of activities is fun and gives a good momentum.” Hwok-Aun

“We learned many new and wondrous things about Earth’s ecosystem and biodiversity that shows how our beautiful earth is undoubtedly best designed to have life and sustain it. We want to preserve and enhance what we have on Earth. I have been enjoying doing that for a while now thanks to Shirene our Agriculturist. Let’s get learning more. Thanks for the day… my son and I truly enjoyed it.” Lynette
